Tell a wedding organizer that you want to have a cheap wedding, and you will immediately see him or her cringe. Yet that was exactly the position that I was in with my marriage. Fortunately, the wedding planner with my own sister, but regrettably, cheap meant very, very inexpensive. I was half tempted, to tell you the honest truth, to wait another year or two til I was on more secure financial footing, but it was very imperative to my bride-to-be to be married. We had decided that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, and she wished to make it official.
My idea was to have the most low-cost wedding we could by merely getting married in the eyes of the state. We didn't need all the elaborate ceremony and country wedding songs to be married! You get a wedding certificate, take a weekend trip, & have done with it. No gigantic dress, no guest list, no country wedding songs, no giant bills to pay. It would be a lot more fun than having a huge troublesome occasion with all of our friends & family, and it would only cost a few hundred dollars. She wouldn't hear of it, however. She was willing to have cheap wedding day decorations & a discount wedding gown, but one way or the other she was getting married traditionally - country wedding songs and all.
There is nothing more dreary than planning affordable weddings. You see, there is no miraculous inexpensive weddings trick. You need to simply save money & everything that you can. You need to find a way to get cheap wedding invitations, cheap wedding day centerpieces, low priced bridesmaid gowns, and even a somehow inexpensive room to have the reception in. The last one is easy assuming that you know someone with space that they will let you use. In my case, we were able to use my folks back-yard and save a lot of money on renting out a hall. Even so, everything else added up to quite a little bit of cash.
The hardest part was picking out wedding day bridal dresses with my wife. For most of the arrangement, she was willing to use wedding do it yourself tricks in order to save a bit of money occasionally, but picking out her wedding dress was an absolutely horrible ordeal. In the end, we finally decided that that would be the one area of the wedding where she could spend as much money as she needed to get what she wished to wear. After all, there is no substituting for the perfect wedding dress.
